Manchester United slap £20m price tag on loan star

David De Gea’s decision to pledge his long-term future to Manchester United means Dean Henderson is allowed to leave the club on a permanent basis, claims The Sun.

Henderson is currently on loan at Sheffield United after playing an important part in the Blades’ promotion push from the Championship last season.

The England Under-21 international signed a new long-term deal with United at the end of last season following his impressive displays in the Championship.

Henderson made it clear at the time he wanted to replace De Gea, who had been heavily linked with a summer move away.

De Gea had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal and there were no assurances he would prolong his stay at Old Trafford.

However, the 28-year-old penned a new contract earlier this month all but ending any hopes of Henderson carving out a career at his boyhood club.

United will look to cash in on Henderson at the end of the season and are looking to command in the region of £20m for the 22-year-old.

United will not be short of suitors for Henderson, though he was at fault for Sheffield United in their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool on Saturday.

Henderson allowed Georginio Wijnaldum’s shot to slip through his legs and it turned out to be the match winner for the Premier League leaders.

Henderson has the worst pass success rate in the Premier League this season (34.8%).
