Tottenham could strip Hugo Lloris of the captain’s armband after the 2018 World Cup winner was charged with drink driving on Friday morning, claims The Daily Mail.
Lloris failed a breathalyser test at 2.20am in central London on Friday following a night out with compatriots Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud.
The 31-year-old, who spent seven hours in police custody, will appear before a Magistrates court next month and Tottenham are understandably fuming with one of the most senior members of their squad.
Lloris will reportedly still be considered for selection against Manchester United on Monday night but Mauricio Pochettino could strip the France international of the captaincy as punishment.
Tottenham will also fine Lloris two weeks’ wages, which will be worth around £300,000, and Harry Kane is now poised to take over the armband, to go with his role as England captain.
Pochettino’s side have made a 100 per cent start to the new Premier League season and they will aim to continue that run away to United on Bank Holiday Monday, with or without Lloris in the team.
Since August 2016, only David De Gea (32) and Thibaut Courtois (31) have kept more clean sheets than Lloris (30) in the Premier League.
