Abraham denies switching international allegiances to Nigeria

Tammy Abraham has denied suggestions he has agreed to switch international allegiances to Nigeria and insists he remains available for selection for England.

The president of Nigeria Football Federation claimed earlier this week that he had successfully convinced Abraham to pledge his international future to the Super Eagles.

Abraham represented England’s U21 side at the European Championships over the summer but Amaju Pinnick claimed the Chelsea loan star was getting the necessary paperwork done in order to represent Nigeria at the 2018 World Cup.

However, the 19-year-old, who is currently on loan at Swansea, has moved to deny those comments and is still trying to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

“I have informed The FA that I remain available for selection for England,” Abraham told BBC Sport. “Contrary to reports in the media I would like to clarify that I have not agreed to switch my national team allegiance.

“I can confirm I met the president of the NFF after our las game against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday given he is a friend of my father.

“However, any suggestion that I have made a decision to change my international representation is incorrect and wide of the mark.”

Abraham has only managed to score one goal in five Premier League appearances for Swansea this season.
