Atletico striker denies exit talk

Jackson Martinez has refuted talks suggesting he is already looking to force a move away from Atletico Madrid.

Atletico lavished £25m on the Colombia international over the summer, but the 29-year-old has failed to hit the ground running leading the claims he could leave.

However, Martinez, who picked up an injury on international duty, has moved to deny rumours of any unrest.

“I try to do my job in every game, depending also on the collective effort of my colleagues,” Martinez is quoted as saying by Football Espana.

“I try to adapt gradually, although I haven’t produced as expected. The team has had good results. Personally I have to keep working.

“[The support at Vicente Calderon] is positive for me and it’s a commitment too. I’ll fight until the end and it’s not in my head, as has been said, to leave next season.

“In my head is just to fight the most for this shirt. I’ll stay as long as the club wants me. That’s according to results, and we know that’s the way it is.”

Martinez has been cast in and out of the team alongside Fernando Torres in his maiden campaign with Atletico and only three current teammates have garnered a lower WhoScored rating than the Colombian thus far in La Liga (6.69).
