Unai Emery confirms Paris Saint-Germain departure

Unai Emery has announced he will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season.

The 46-year-old only became PSG head coach in 2016 but has failed to hit the standards required of the French giants.

PSG are desperate to win the Champions League and turned to Emery following his roaring success in Europe with Sevilla.

The Ligue 1 outfit blew a 4-0 first leg lead in the round of 16 against Barcelona last season and crashed out at the same stage to Real Madrid this time around.

PSG backed Emery to the hills last summer, making Neymar and Kylian Mbappe the two most expensive players of all-time.

However, Emery has now confirmed that he will move on at the end of the season, with former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel expected to replace him.

“I have communicated to the players of my departure,” he said at his pre-match press conference on Friday. “I thank President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, sports director Antero Henrique, supporters and all players for these two seasons.”

PSG have already wrapped up their fifth league title in six seasons and the Coupe de la Ligue this year, with the Coupe de France final still in play next month.

In two seasons at PSG, Emery has a win ratio of 78.9% in all competitions.
