Dzeko could have returned to Premier League this summer, says agent

The agent of Edin Dzeko has revealed Roma rejected offers from Inter, England and China for the striker in the summer.

Dzeko, 30, only joined Roma from Manchester City last year but was considered a flop at the end of his first season, prompting suggestions he could leave the Serie A side in the summer.

However, Dzeko’s agent, Silvano Martina, has revealed Dzeko opted against forcing through a move in order to prove his worth to Roma this season, while their rivals, Inter, were one of the sides interested in signing the Bosnia international.

“Edin is a great player, first and foremost,” Martina told Gazzamercato, via Football Italia. “The first season in a new league can be difficult for anyone. Just look at Simone Zaza at West Ham, where he’s playing a heavy price for those struggles.

“There was also a coincidence last term, as Roma tended to score two goals per game with a false nine. This time around, things are going differently. It’s true, the Nerazzurri [Inter] wanted him in case Mauro Icardi left, but they were not in the condition to make a big investment for Dzeko.

“As far as the Giallorossi were concerned, he was not on the market either. From what I know they received offers from England and one from China. The Chinese proposal was €30m (£27m) and €15m (£13.5m) per year for Dzeko.

“Roma made it clear they would only sell Edin if the player himself requested it. If Dzeko had asked to change club, then there would’ve been a very strong chance of him moving on.

“He chose to remain at Roma and prove to everyone what a great player he is. He scored a lot in pre-season and could’ve had even more than the 10 Serie A goals so far. If he continues like this, Roma could win the Scudetto.”

Dzeko could have returned to Premier League this summer, says agent

Dzeko has been in sensational form for Roma this season and his performances could not be of starker contrast to his displays last season. In fact, the Bosnian striker only managed eight league goals in 31 appearances last season but has already surpassed that record in just 10 games this time around (10 goals).

Furthermore, only Edinson Cavani has scored as many goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season than Dzeko.
