West Ham keen on Chelsea striker

West Ham want to sign Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud on loan for the remainder of the season, claims The Daily Mirror.

The Hammers are working on a club-record deal for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez but will only sign the Uruguay international at the end of the season.

Scan results have revealed Marko Arnautovic did not suffer a broken foot in Tuesday’s defeat to Wolves but Manuel Pellegrini wants another striker through the door on deadline day.

West Ham have been linked with Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi but it has now emerged the east London outfit want to sign Giroud.

The 2018 World Cup winner has already conceded his future at Chelsea has darkened since Gonzalo Higuain’s arrival last week but wanted to evaluate his career at the end of the season.

Having already sold Alvaro Morata to Atletico Madrid, losing Giroud would leave Sarri short of natural strikers as back-up to Higuain.

Giroud has only started 12 Premier League games for Chelsea since joining from Arsenal 12 months ago.

The 32-year-old has made 13 league appearances as a substitute this season and has only netted one goal in 19 games.

Since August 2016, Giroud has scored more goals as a substitute than any other player in the Premier League (seven).
