Tottenham lead race to sign £40m-rated Grealish

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has made Aston Villa starlet Jack Grealish a top transfer target this summer, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Grealish is expected to leave boyhood club Villa after the Championship side failed to gain promotion to the Premier League last season.

Steve Bruce’s side are in financial turmoil and need to raise £40m this summer in order to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

Grealish has been linked with a move to Leicester as a replacement for Manchester City bound Riyad Mahrez, but now Spurs have entered the race.

Villa want to get £40m for Grealish to ease their financial woes, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is ready to test their resolve with a substantially lower bid.

Grealish benefitted from John Terry’s guidance at Villa last season and emerged as a real star in the Championship, finally starting to fulfill his immense potential.

Of Championship players that made at least 25 appearances last season, only Adama Traore (9.7) and Jeremie Boga (4.6) completed more dribbles per 90 than Grealish (3.8).
