Chelsea confirm Batshuayi capture

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.

The 22-year-old has penned a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge having previously been linked with moves to Tottenham and West Ham.

Batshuayi, who netted one goal at Euro 2016 for Belgium, bagged 17 times in Ligue 1 last season, prompting interest in his signature to rise.

Chelsea, though, have won the race to sign the striker, who told the club’s official website: “I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career. I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge.

“Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it's an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.”

Batshuayi follows in the footsteps of Didier Drogba, who signed for Chelsea from Marseille back in 2004.
