Gueye fails to secure January move to Paris Saint-Germain

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has missed out on a move to Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day, reports The Daily Telegraph.

PSG earmarked Gueye as a top target in the last week of the January transfer window but could not agree terms with Everton.

The Toffees rejected an opening offer of nearly £22m for the 29-year-old and PSG even failed with an improved offer of £26m on deadline day.

PSG signed Leandro Paredes in a deal worth in the region of €40m earlier in the window and were desperate to sign one more central midfielder.

Gueye emerged as the most accessible option of their many targets but PSG have fallen short in their attempts to deliver for head coach Thomas Tuchel.

Reports emerged suggesting Gueye had travelled to France in order to help accelerate a deal, while there were claims Marco Silva had threatened to resign if the Senegal international was sold.

Since the beginning of last season, no player has completed more tackles and interceptions in the Premier League than Gueye (310) and he must now refocus on life at Goodison Park.
