Manchester United and Tottenham scramble for Southampton defender
Manchester United and Tottenham are among the Premier League clubs interested in signing Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand this summer, claims The Sun.
Southampton are currently three points adrift of safety and Bertrand will almost certainly leave if Mark Hughes’ side are relegated to the Championship this season.
The 28-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Manchester City and now United, Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton are keen on the £25m-rated defender.
All three clubs are on the market for a new left-back this summer, although interest from the United and Tottenham would likely appeal to Bertrand more.
Tottenham are expected to cash in on Danny Rose this summer, while United will need to address that area of the pitch with Luke Shaw destined to be shown the exit door by Jose Mourinho.
In the last three seasons, Southampton have won 34.8% of their Premier League matches Bertrand has started compared to just 21.1% of games when he has not featured from the off.
