Liverpool striker allays injury fears

Daniel Sturridge has put a thigh injury down to fatigue and insists it’s nothing serious after limping off in Liverpool’s friendly win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

Liverpool turned in a sublime performance in their opening Audi Cup game against Bayern to run out surprise 3-0 winners, but the game was marred by the sight of Sturridge limping off with injury.

Sturridge seemed to damage his thigh in the process of scoring Liverpool’s third goal on the night, but the 27-year-old told reporters after the game his latest injury is nothing serious.

“There’s a little bit of tension,” Sturridge told LFC TV, via The Daily Mail. “We’ve had a lot of training. I think it’s just fatigue to be honest. I’ll okay.”

Jurgen Klopp had praised Sturridge for the condition he returned to pre-season in and even suggested it was the best shape he has been in during his time as Liverpool manager.

Sturridge has struggled to stay fit in recent years and was heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer as a result. In fact, in the last three Premier League campaigns, Sturridge has only managed to start 21.9% of Liverpool’s matches.
