Arsenal interested in Roma midfielder

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Roma midfielder Amadou Diawara with a view to a summer move, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to bolster his midfield options for the new season once Arsenal have a deal over the line for Chelsea winger Willian.

Thomas Partey remains Arsenal's first-choice target but Atletico Madrid want his £45m release clause paid in full and now the Gunners are weighing up their options.

Diawara has emerged as one of several midfielders Arsenal are now considering and there have even been suggestions Lucas Torreira could be offered as part of the deal.

Torreira has struggled to win over Arteta and the Uruguay international is understood to be open to returning to Italy.

Arsenal paid £26m to sign Torreira from Sampdoria two years ago and now the 24-year-old is reportedly a transfer target for AC Milan and Fiorentina.

Roma want to keep hold of Diawara and know they are in a strong position, as the former Napoli midfielder still has four years left to run on his current deal.

The 23-year-old made 19 league starts in his first season for Roma following his move from Napoli 12 months ago.

Roma remarkably won 68.4% of their Serie A matches when Diawara started compared to just 38.9% of those he didn't.
