Juventus to throw kitchen sink at Emre Can signature

Juventus general director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed the club will do everything in their power to sign Liverpool midfielder Emre Can.

Can has entered the final six months of his current Liverpool deal and is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

The Germany international this week rubbished suggestions he has already agreed terms with Juventus and hinted he could still extend his deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

However, Juventus are determined to sign the 24-year-old and will put all of their resources towards his signature.

“Emre Can is a player whose contract is running down, so it allows us to approach him for negotiations and that is the course we have taken,” he told Sky Sports.

“I can’t say if he could sign a new contract with Liverpool, but I can say we will try all we can to get the player. Obviously, we have to respect what the player wants.”

Can has spent the last four years with Liverpool but has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular in that time, while Naby Keita’s arrival at the end of the season means his struggles to nail down a consistent first-team place will continue.

Liverpool actually have a significantly better win ratio in the Premier League since the start of last season when Can has not started (68.4%) compared to when he has featured from the off (52.4%).

Furthermore, in the last three Premier League campaigns, only four players have committed more fouls than the Liverpool midfielder (106).
