Villa sack Sherwood

Aston Villa has parted ways with manager Tim Sherwood, the club has confirmed.

The Villans have lost their last six league games, a run of form that leaves the club mired in the bottom three of the Premier League and currently the worst of its kind in Europe's top 5 leagues.

Sherwood had been under huge pressure to turn fortunes around following a less than ideal start to the season, but a 2-1 home defeat to Swansea on Saturday was the final straw for the Midlands side.

Villa sack Sherwood

"Aston Villa Football Club has parted company with manager Tim Sherwood today," a statement read on the club's official website on Sunday.

"The board has monitored the performances closely all season and believes results on the pitch were simply not good enough and that a change is imperative.

"However, the Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tim for all his efforts during a difficult period last season and for the many positive contributions he has made to the entire football setup during his time with the Club. We wish him well in the future."

Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes are among the early favourites to succeed Sherwood at Villa Park.
