Atlético sign former City defender

Atlético Madrid have made their fourth signing of the summer after former Manchester City defender Stefan Savić passed his medical at the Vicente Calderón.

Savić, 24, is the latest player to join ‘Los Rojiblancos’ following the arrival of Jackson Martinez, Luciano Vietto and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco as Diego Simeone continues to ring changes this summer.

The Montenegro international, who has put pen to paper on a five-year deal from Fiorentina worth up to £10m, is likely to be a direct replacement for Miranda, who joined Inter earlier in the transfer window.

“We are very satisfied with the agreement reached with Fiorentina because Stefan is a player with a great future ahead of him,” said Atletico's sporting director Jose Luiz Caminero.

“He’s fast and strong defensively and has experience despite his youth after playing in Serbia, England and Italy. I am convinced that he will bring a lot.”

The 24-year-old made 86 appearances in Serie A during the three years he spent at Fiorentina and in that time only seven players have successfully completed more clearances (477) and no Viola player averaged more clearances per game in the league last term than the former City player (5.8).
