Juventus confirm deal for Serie A starlet is off

Juventus have announced their proposed deal with Sampdoria for rising star Patrik Schick has been called off.

Schick underwent a medical with the Serie A champions last month after a they triggered his €30m (£26.6m) release clause, but Max Allegri’s side sought further checks after discovering an issue with the player’s heart.

“The clubs Sampdoria and Juventus announce that it was decided, by mutual agreement, not to complete the transfer of the player Patrik Schick,” a statement read on the club’s official Twitter account.

Sampdoria will now be able to sell Schick for more than the fee agreed with Juventus, as Schick’s release clause has now expired. Days before the official announcement, the club’s president warned Juventus they would sell Schick to a number of other clubs that are still interested.
