Liverpool star signs new five-year deal

Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal running until the summer of 2024, the club has announced.

Robertson’s existing contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2021 but Liverpool have rewarded him with new terms to reflect his growing importance.

Liverpool signed Robertson from Hull 18 months ago in a deal worth £10m and the Scotland international has developed into one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old epitomises everything about Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side and is now set to follow in the footsteps of Joe Gomez, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah in pledging his long-term future to the club.

“As soon as the club came to me, it was a no-brainer for me - I want to stay here, so as soon as they put an offer on the table it was signed as quickly as that, he told the club’s official website.

“It was a pretty easy contract for me and I’m sure for the club as well. We both agreed quickly, that’s why it’s been done so quickly.

“Getting to know the lads and working with all the staff at Melwood has been a pleasure. The best thing about work is when you love coming in every day - and that’s what I do here. I am glad I have extended my stay and hopefully we have a lot of good days ahead.”

Robertson was forced to be patient before breaking into the Liverpool first-team but is now considered one of the first names on the team sheet and key to their title challenge this season.

Only Jose Holebas (6) has provided more assists than Robertson (4) of all defenders in the Premier League this season.
