Bayern Munich suffer huge blow ahead of Real Madrid match

Bayern Munich have suffered another almighty blow in their attempts to knock out defending European champions Real Madrid from the Champions League with news Robert Lewandowski has failed to recover from a shoulder injury in time to feature, claims German outlet Bild, via The Independent.

Lewandowski, 28, was left incensed by Borussia Dortmund’s rough treatment at the weekend during their 4-1 win over his former club at the weekend before the player’s agent claimed his former teammates had gone out to injure the striker ahead of Wednesday’s match with Madrid.

The Poland international has been in unbelievable form for Bayern this season and has previously put Madrid to the sword in the Champions League, and his absence will really dent their chances of getting a positive result in the first leg of their quarter-final tie with Madrid at home on Wednesday night.

Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti had already lost star defender Mats Hummels to injury ahead of their clash with his former club but can at least take solace from the fact Manuel Neuer should be back in goal after a short time on the sidelines.

Lewandowski could only train for about 20 minutes earlier in the week before leaving the field with pain to his shoulder and he is expected to be replaced up front by out of sorts Thomas Muller, who is also not at full fitness himself.

While Lewandowski has scored 33 goals in 36 games across the Bundesliga and Champions League this season, Muller has only managed seven goals in 30 appearances in the same competitions. The Germany international has really struggled this season, although he has provided 11 assists over the two competitions.
