Watford reject Man Utd's loan bid for Sarr

Watford have rejected Manchester United's loan bid with an option to buy for winger Ismaila Sarr, claims Manchester Evening News.

United are frantically scrambling to sign a new right winger on deadline day after accepting defeat in Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho.

With Dortmund unwilling to lower their €120m asking price and United refusing to match it, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are looking at alternatives.

United remain in talks with Barcelona regarding Ousmane Dembele and have now failed with a move for Sarr. The Red Devils' offer of a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for £25m was rejected by Watford, who want a permanent sale.

Watford broke their club-record to sign Sarr 12 months ago and are not interested in making a loss on their £40m investment.

Liverpool were interested in Sarr earlier in the window but baulked at Watford's £45m asking price and instead signed Diogo Jota from Wolves for £40m.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an encouraging maiden campaign for the Hornets last season despite the fact the club were relegated.

Sarr played a direct hand in nine goals in 28 league appearances and garnered his best WhoScored rating in Watford's shock win over Liverpool in February.

The Senegal international tore Liverpool to pieces, as Watford inflicted Jurgen Klopp's side their first Premier League defeat of the season.
