Manchester United confident of breakthrough in contract talks with De Gea
Manchester United have renewed confidence in their pursuit to secure David de Gea’s long-term future, claims The Sun.
De Gea has a year remaining on his current £200,000-a-week United deal and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to test the club’s resolve with a £60m bid.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side insist they will not listen to any offers for De Gea this summer even if they run the risk of losing the Spain international for nothing next summer.
United are prepared to let contract talks drag on into next season but are growing increasingly confident of agreeing a new long-term deal with the 28-year-old.
Their best offer of £300,000-a-week was knocked back by De Gea at the start of the year and they are now set to match the player’s wage demands of £350,000-a-week.
De Gea is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world but the Spaniard has endured a nightmare 12 months for club and country.
De Gea made more errors leading to an opposition goal in the Premier League last season (four) than his previous five league campaigns combined (three).
