Arsenal defender free to join Valencia

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will allow Gabriel to leave and join Valencia this summer if the Spanish side match his £10m valuation, reports The Sun.

Gabriel has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Emirates in his two years at the club and is now even below Rob Holding and Nacho Monreal in the pecking order for places in Arsenal’s back three.

The Gunners shelled out in the region of £11.3m to sign the fiery defender from Villarreal in 2015 and are looking to recoup as much of their original investment as possible.

Marcelino is desperate to sign a new centre-back this summer and Valencia have already been heavily linked with a move for Jeison Murillo from Inter.

However, the Los Che boss previously worked with Gabriel at Villarreal and is now interested in reuniting with the Brazilian.

Interestingly, Arsenal actually had a far superior win ratio in Premier League last season with Gabriel in the starting XI (66.7%) compared to when he was not available for selection (56.5%).
