Spanish side looking to sign Tottenham forward

Athletic Club are keen to hand Fernando Llorente a way out of his Tottenham hell in January, claims The Independent.

Llorente snubbed a reunion with Antonio Conte at Chelsea to join Tottenham from Swansea in the summer of 2017.

The former Juventus striker was signed as competition for Harry Kane but has barely got a look and is now keen to leave.

Llorente’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of the season and Athletic Club are hopeful of securing his services in January for a cut-price deal.

The Spanish side could agree a pre-contract agreement with the 33-year-old in January but plan to bring forward plans to sign him to salvage their season.

Athletic Club are only one place above the bottom three and only Valencia (7) and Real Betis (8) have scored fewer goals than the Basque-outfit (9).

Llorente came through the Athletic Club academy before signing for Juventus in 2013 and the veteran striker is keen to return.

Llorente came off the bench and helped Tottenham secure a dramatic 2-1 win over PSV in the Champions League in midweek, adding to the goal he netted against West Ham at the end of last month.

However, Llorente has only made six appearances in all competitions this season and started just once. In total, he has only started one Premier League game for the club.
