Manchester United want €20m for Juventus target

Juventus are interested in signing Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian as Dani Alves’ replacement but have been told they will need to pay up to €20m (£17.6m) to bring him back to Italy, reports Sky Italia, via Football Italia.

Alves wants to leave the Serie A champions after just 12 months at the club and Manchester City are favourites to land the right-back as Pep Guardiola seeks a reunion with the former Barcelona defender.

Max Allegri’s side have already been linked with a move for Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin but are now considering Darmian, who would represent a much cheaper alternative.

Darmian has spent the last two years at United after being signed from Italian side Torino by then-manager Louis van Gaal, but the Italy international has struggled to make any significant impact at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old finished the season strongly and was particularly impressive in United’s Europa League final triumph over Ajax but doesn’t have a long-term future under Jose Mourinho, who is willing to sell the versatile defender at the right price.

United only paid just over £12m to sign Darmian from Torino and are now looking to make a profit on the defender as Mourinho continues to ensure the club sell well, something they have been poor at in recent years.

In the last two Premier League seasons only Daley Blind and Ander Herrera (both 140) have completed more tackles than Darmian (126).
