Dean Henderson sets stunning Manchester United target

Dean Henderson has revealed his career will be a faliure if he doesn't make over 500 apperances for Manchester United.

The 22-year-old's stock has soared during his second loan stint at Sheffield United this season and there are calls for him to replace Jordan Pickford as England's No.1 at Euro 2020.

Henderson has certainly made Bramall Lane his home over the last two years but he remains determined to usurp David de Gea as Manchester United goalkeeper.

De Gea has endured an alarming slump since the 2018 World Cup and Henderson's performances for Sheffield United have given United a major headache.

Henderson would arguably walk into any team in the Premier League apart from Liverpool and Manchester City on this season's form.

"The big dream is to play for Manchester United one day," he told the Kelly and Wright show. "I've always had that dream throughout my life so until that's accomplished I'll never think I've made it.

"Even if I play for them once I won't think I've made it. I need to play for them 500 times, 300 times, whatever it is, then you can turnaround at the end of your career and say, 'I made it, I did what I set out to do'."

Only four players in United's history have made more than 500 appearances for the club and it would require Henderson being their first-choice goalkeeper for more than decade to achieve that.

While United may consider Henderson a real candidate to be their first-choice goalkeeper next season, that is unlikely to happen after making David de Gea one of the division's best-paid players in September.

De Gea signed a new four-year deal reportedly worth £350,000-a-week at the start of the season and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side would struggle to find a suitor willing to match those wages for a goalkeeper seemingly on the decline.

No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Henderosn (9) - four more than De Gea has managed.
