Manchester United lead race for highly rated shotstopper
Manchester United are now favourites to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma should David De Gea depart Old Trafford, reports the Sunday Mirror.
De Gea came close to leaving United in 2015, only for a faulty fax machine to scupper a switch to Real Madrid.
That being said, the Spain international has again been linked with a move to Real Madrid and Jose Mourinho is lining up a contingency plan should De Gea depart for the Spanish capital.
Donnarumma, who on Saturday celebrated his 18th birthday, is thought to be high on Mourinho’s wishlist, though he would cost the Premier League side upwards of £40m to sign.
His performances have captured the eye of Manchester City, Real Madrid, Juventus and PSG and all could make an offer that AC Milan find too hard to resist.
City indeed have immediate goalkeeping concerns, with Claudio Bravo failing to make an impact and Willy Caballero set to leave at the end of the season, which could see them rival United in the race to sign Donnarumma.
