Di Maria’s move to China hits snag

Angel Di Maria’s proposed move from Paris Saint-Germain to China will only gather steam if Gus Poyet’s Shanghai Shenhua can make room for the winger.

The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a January exit away from PSG after enduring a dismal campaign to date for the Ligue 1 champions.

Di Maria, 28, still has two-and-a-half years left to run on the contract he signed when he joined PSG from Manchester United in the summer of 2015 but has emerged as the next high profile player linked with a lucrative move to China.

Shanghai Shenhua, who are managed by Uruguayan Poyet, are on the verge of wrapping up a deal to sign Carlos Tevez and now want his compatriot Di Maria, although Poyet has revealed a deal can only take place if they make one of their foreign player spots vacant.

“Could Angel Di Maria arrive? If Tevez comes, the foreign player limits will have been reached,” Poyet told La Red, via ESPN. “It could only happen if there is a departure. We already have Fredy Guarin, Giovanni Moreno and Obafemi Martins.”

Not only do Shanghai Shenua have those aforementioned trio of players, but they also have Demba Ba on the mend from a fractured leg suffered in July.

Since the start of last season only Ryad Boubeabouz (162) has completed more chances in Ligue 1 than Di Maria (145).
