Everton emerge as frontrunners for £30m-rated Manchester United outcast

Everton want to prise Marcos Rojo away from Manchester United but Jose Mourinho’s side are holding out for £30m, reports The Daily Mail.

Mourinho is willing to sacrifice Rojo in order to make room for one defensive signing this summer and Everton manager Marco Silva is keen on the Argentina international.

United already have five centre-backs at the club and Mourinho has been told he must sell before one of Harry Maguire or Toby Alderweireld arrive, with Rojo the most likely candidate to get the chop.

Silva took over as Sporting head coach in 2014 the same summer Rojo left to join United and believes the 28-year-old is the ideal defender to bolster his defensive options.

Rojo is currently recovering from injury picked up during the 2018 World Cup but that hasn’t deterred Everton’s interest, although no formal bid has been made.

United have better Premier League record under Mourinho when Rojo has not started (58%) compared to when he has featured from the off (53.8%).
