Liverpool striker free to leave in January

Jurgen Klopp has told Daniel Sturridge he can leave Liverpool on loan in January in order to salvage his England spot for the 2018 World Cup, claims The Sun

Sturridge has been heavily linked with a January exit after struggling to make any impression on Klopp since his arrival more than two years ago.

The 28-year-old has lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad as a result and must find regular football elsewhere to have any chance of making the 2018 World Cup.

As well as first choice striker Roberto Firmino, Sturridge is also competing for game time with Dominic Solanke and Danny Ings in a central role for the Reds.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City striker will not be short of suitors in January as several Premier League teams are in desperate need of a regular goalscorer that can fire them to safety.

Sturridge has only started 20 of Klopp’s 85 Premier League matches in charge of Liverpool, which all but confirms he does not feature in his long-term plans for the club.
