Tottenham open talks with Stuttgart over Juventus target

Tottenham have begun talks to sign Nicolas Gonzalez from Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, reports The Athletic.

The Argentine, who is capable of playing out wide or through the middle, has been linked with a move to fellow Premier League side Leeds, though the capture of Raphinha from Rennes looks to have ended their push for the 22-year-old.

It now appears as though Spurs have moved to the front of the race to land Gonzalez, however talks remain at a preliminary stage.

Serie A powerhouse Juventus have also been credited with an interest in Gonzalez and are prepared to rival Spurs in the push to land the winger.

VfB Stuttgart would be prepared to sanction his sale for around £27m, with both teams hoping to negotiate that fee down in light of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

Gonzalez has scored five and provided two assists from 10 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, averaging a league goal or assist every 86.5 minutes in 2020/21.
