Villa wrap up Veretout capture

Aston Villa have fended off competition from Midland rivals Leicester City to sign French midfielder Jordan Veretout from Nantes for a fee believed to be in the region of £7m.

Veretout, 22, has put pen to paper on a five-year contract and joins as the fourth player to sign from Ligue 1 this summer following the arrivals of Idrissa Gueye, Jordan Amavi and Jordan Ayew.

"I'm really pleased Jordan decided to choose Aston Villa over the other options he had and opt to continue his development with us," manager Tim Sherwood told Villa's official website.

"He is only 22-years-old but he is vastly experienced for someone that age. He has played over 140 games in Ligue 1 and is a really exciting young player. I know he is very highly rated over in France so we are delighted to get this deal over the line."

The Nantes midfielder finished the Ligue 1 campaign as Nantes’ third highest WhoScored rated player (7.07) with seven goals and six assists and will certainly add creativity to Sherwood’s midfield. In fact, only two players made more key passes in France’s top-flight last season than Veretout (72).
