Manchester United and Chelsea both made bids for Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic in the summer transfer window, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, via 101 Great Goals.
The arrival of Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez at Barcelona over the summer had promoted questions about Rakitic’s future at the Camp Nou but the midfielder remained at the club as the window shut on Thursday.
However, it is now claimed that Premier League duo United and Chelsea both had proposals knocked back by the 28-year-old over the summer, while Juventus were also unsuccessful in luring the box-to-box midfielder away from the La Liga champions.
In the last three La Liga campaigns Rakitic is the next best Barcelona player at providing goals outside of their fearsome trident of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, having played a direct hand in 22 goals.
