Atletico Madrid have announced Gabi has put pen to paper on a new 12-month extension keeping him at the club until 2018.
Gabi, 33, had entered the final 12 months of his previous deal but confirmed an agreement was in place earlier this week.
The Atletico captain is still an integral part of Diego Simeone’s side and will now make the transition with the team into their new stadium new season.
“I am very happy to continue one more year at home,” Gabi told Atletico’s official website. “I always say that playing with Atletico de Madrid was my childhood dream, so I cannot ask for more than what I am living these years.
“I also want to thank the fans for their unconditional support for both me and for the team.”
In the last six La Liga campaigns Gabi has completed more tackles than any other player (627).
