Tottenham leading the race for Barcelona midfielder

Tottenham are the frontrunners to land Ivan Rakitic from LaLiga giants Barcelona, with the Spanish side looking to sell the Croat this summer, reports Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo.

Rakitic is surplus to requirements at Camp Nou and was part of Barcelona's offer in their bid to re-sign Neymar from PSG last year.

However, the deal fell through and Rakitic remained in Spain, but has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot having made just 10 league starts.

And with the 32-year-old entering the final year of his current contract, Barcelona are looking to sell the midfielder rather than lose him on a free next year.

Interest in Rakitic is high, with former employers Sevilla eager to bring him back to the Roman Sanchez Pizjuan, while Spanish counterparts Atletico Madrid are also monitoring his situation.

Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho is looking to bring in another central midfielder in the off season and the Portuguese manager has identified Rakitic as the ideal target to improve his squad.

Barcelona may also ponder using Rakitic in a deal to sign Tanguy Ndombele, who has emerged as a possible target for the Blaugrana.
