Liverpool turn attention to Swedish star

Liverpool are eyeing up a £20m move for RB Leipzig star Emil Forsberg after missing out on Christian Pulisic, reports the Daily Mirror.

Pulisic had been top of Jurgen Klopp’s wish list this month as he looks to strengthen his frontline in the wake of Sadio Mane’s impending departure for the Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Borussia Dortmund have routinely stated that they are unwilling to sell the teenage sensation, with the Reds since turning their attention to Forsberg.

The Sweden international has been impressive for RB Leipzig following their promotion, with five goals and eight assists contributing to a WhoScored rating of 7.56, though he was red carded in the 3-0 defeat to Bayern Munich before the winter break.

The German side are under no pressure to sell one of their prized assets, though will evaluate any offer made for their players, which appeals to Liverpool.

Forsberg has been on Klopp’s radar for some time now, with the current Reds boss requesting a number of scouting reports during the former’s time with Malmo and latter’s spell as Dortmund boss.

It remains to be seen, however, whether a £20m bid would be enough to convince RB Leipzig to sell the 25-year-old, who has won more WhoScored man of the match awards (5) than any other player in the Bundesliga this season.
