Enrique challenges Roma to pay €90m for Adriano

Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique has challenged Roma to match Adriano’s €90m (£62.97m) release clause to land the full-back.

The Serie A giants have earmarked the 30-year-old as José Holebas’ replacement but have struggled to make any break through in their negotiations with the Catalonian outfit.

“I’m interested in everything that concerns the club,” the Barca head coach told AS.

“I spoke with Pedro [linked with Manchester United] and Adriano, but I won’t tell you what we said.

“All I’ll say is, if someone leaves it will be because the release clause was paid, but we’ll do what the player wants, that’s what will ultimately decides things.”

Roma are unlikely to match the 30-year-old’s staggering release clause, but are reportedly hoping to conclude a deal in the region of €14.2m (£10m)

The La Liga champions, who are currently serving a transfer embargo, are understandably coy on allowing players to leave the club this summer without being to sign immediate replacements.

The ex-Brazil international has spent the majority of his five years at the Nou Camp as an understudy to Dani Alves, Eric Abidal and Jordi Alba. In fact, he was restricted to just 10 starts in La Liga last season in Enrique’s first season in charge.
