United enquire over Colombian's availability

Manchester United have been in contact with James Rodriguez's agent Jorge Mendes over a possible move to Old Trafford, reports Spanish news outlet Fichajes.

The attacker has missed much of the season due to injury, making just three league appearances so far.

However, when he has been available, Rodriguez has made a significant contribution to Real Madrid's title pursuit, netting three goals and registering a further assist to help gain a WhoScored rating of 8.02.

United are believed to be long-term admirers of the 24-year-old and have supposedly contacted Mendes with a view to a possible big money move.

Rodriguez is thought to be unsettled in Madrid following Rafa Benitez's appointment as head coach, heightening speculation over a possible exit.

However, AS is reporting that Rodriguez is instead hoping to pen a new contract at the Bernabeu rather than move to United.
