Arsenal prepared to trigger Real Madrid sensation’s release clause
Arsenal are lining up a stunning deadline day move for Real Madrid youngster Marco Asensio, reports the Sunday Express.
The highly rated Spaniard has a £75m release clause in his contract, which the Gunners are supposedly ready to trigger before the transfer window closes.
Gunners head coach Arsene Wenger is looking to add another creative outlet to his squad and has been linked with moves for Riyad Mahrez and Thomas Lemar.
However, they have been frustrated in their efforts to lure the pair to the Emirates Stadium, which has seen them turn their attention to Asensio.
The 21-year-old scored a stunning strike in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Barcelona earlier this month and was a second half sub in the 3-0 win at Deportivo on the opening weekend of the La Liga season.
Inter Milan have also been credited with an interest in Asensio, while Liverpool have previously courted the Spain U21 international.
Real Madrid are loath to losing one of young jewels, but are powerless to reject any advances for Asensio should Arsenal match the £75m buyout clause in his contract.
