On-loan Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson may have played his last game of the season for West Ham after scan results revealed his knee injury is worse than first feared, claim The Daily Mirror.
Jenkinson, 23, was forced off in the first half of West Ham’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City on Saturday after fouling Sergio Aguero in his own penalty box.
Scan results have shown the England international has suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season and he will return to Arsenal to carry out his rehabilitation.
While the news will come as a huge blow to the Hammers, it makes their deal to sign Sam Byram from Leeds United even more important.
Slaven Bilic’s men edged out Everton to capture the highly rated full-back earlier this month and the 22-year-old enjoyed a fine debut after replacing Jenkinson against City.
Of players to have to have started at least two Premier League games for West Ham this season, no player has gained a lower WhoScored rating than Jenkinson (6.36).
