Manchester City ace poised to sign five-year deal

Oleksandar Zinchencko is on the verge of penning a fresh five-year deal at Manchester City, claims The Daily Telegraph.

Zinchenko’s current deal is not due to expire until 2021 but City want to reward the 22-year-old with a new contract to reflect his growing importance to the team.

Pep Guardiola was willing to sell the Ukraine international last summer and it caps a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for Zinchenko that he has played his way into the Spaniard’s long-term plans.

Despite naturally being a creative player, Zinchenko did a tremendous job filling the void left by Benjamin Mendy at left-back last season.

Zinchenko finished the 2018/19 campaign as one of City’s best players and was crucial to the club’s domestic treble success.

The Ukrainian’s form at left-back was so impressive last season that it has even caused Guardiola to re-think his summer transfer strategy.

City were gearing up to sign a new left-back after running out of patience with France international Benjamin Mendy.

Leicester ace Ben Chilwell was earmarked as a top transfer target by the Premier League champions but now City have cooled their interest and are prioritising their resources on strengthening other positions in the squad.

City have a 100 per cent win ratio in the Premier League when Zinchenko has featured in the last two campaigns (22 wins from 22 appearances).
