United midfielder wants long-term Old Trafford stay

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has reiterated his desire to stay at Old Trafford for as long as possible following their Manchester derby win.

Herrera has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular since making a £30m move from Athletic Club in 2014 but has produced a series of eye-catching performances in the United midfield this season under Jose Mourinho.

The 27-year-old’s performances this season have even earned him recognition with the Spanish senior national side for the first time in his career and the United ace wants to stay with the club as long as possible.

“I like these games,” Herrera told Sky Sports after their 1-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday. “When you are a Manchester United player and you know the history of this club, you have to respect the games that are for the fans.

“I feel it like them. I am not English and I am not from Manchester, but I really love this club and I have enjoyed my time here. I don’t want to be just one more player. I want to show that I am very happy here and I want to be here for as long as possible.

“I have had bad moments here. Last season we lost two or three games in a row before having Chelsea at home and the atmosphere was one of the best. Man United fans are always with the team and not every team can say that.”

Herrera is cited as one of the midfielders integral to bringing the best out of world record signing Paul Pogba, who has struggled since returning to Old Trafford this summer.

In the last four matches only three players have completed more tackles in the Premier League than Herrera (17).
