Lacazette denies Atletico Madrid agreement

Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette says there is no agreement to join Atletico Madrid nd insists he could still remain at his boyhood club this summer.

Lacazette was expected to join Atletico as Antoine Griezmann’s replacement but Diego Simeone’s side have failed in their attempts to overturn a FIFA-imposed transfer ban meaning they will not be able to sign players until January 2018.

Atletico could still buy Lacazette this summer but they would not be able to register him to play until the turn of the year. However, despite announcing last month his intentions to leave Lyon, the France international has now revealed he may not leave the Ligue 1 giants after all.

“It’s not sure that I leave the club where I came through the youth academy,” Lacazette told Foot Mercato prior to news Atletico had failed with their appeal, via Football Espana.

“There’s nothing signed, nothing official. Yes, I can leave, it doesn’t mean I’ll leave. I’m at a crossroads. I’m not ruling out any options. I’m good at Lyon, but I could go elsewhere.”

News of Atletico’s transfer ban could swing Lacazette’s future back in Arsenal’s favour. Arsene Wenger’s side have been heavily linked with a move for the 26-year-old in recent years but looked set to miss out on his signature to Atletico this summer.

Lacazette has just enjoyed his best ever campaign in terms of goals scored after netting 28 times in 30 appearances in Ligue 1.
