Leicester won’t sack Vardy, says Ranieri

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri insists Jamie Vardy’s contract will not be terminated as the club continues to investigate footage that suggests the striker making a racial slur in a casino.

The England international apologised for a “regrettable error in judgement” after The Sun on Sunday came into possession of footage that appears to show Vardy racially abusing a fellow gambler.

The Foxes have already sacked a trio of academy players who filmed themselves engaging in a racist sex act at the start of the summer, but Ranieri does not believe the same action will be carried out with Vardy.

“The situation is everything is okay, Jamie apologised to everyone, it was a mistake,” Ranieri is quoted as saying by ITV on Thursday.

“The relationship is okay. We go on and forward. The club has said it is okay. James has apologised and for me it is okay.

“Jamie does something on the pitch and then I speak with him.” Asked if Vardy would be sacked, the former Chelsea manager replied: “No. It is not my matter, but he won’t be.”

Vardy’s performances contributed to Leicester’s dazzling period of form in the conclusion to last season that saw them escape relegation. In fact, since the start of the year, only two players have made more assists in the Premier League than the 28-year-old (6).
