Chelsea consider shock swoop for Swansea striker

Chelsea are weighing up a January move for Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Llorente, 31, only joined Swansea from Sevilla over the summer on a two-year deal but has endured a frustrating campaign for the relegation strugglers thus far.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is reportedly unhappy with summer signing Michy Batshuayi and has earmarked Llorente as the ideal cover for Diego Costa as they look to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League.

Batshuayi joined Chelsea from Marseille in the summer in a deal worth in excess of £30m but the Belgium international has failed to make any impression on the Chelsea boss and couldn’t even get in the team when Costa was suspended on Boxing Day.

As a result, Conte is interested in reuniting with Llorente at Stamford Bridge next month having previously worked with the Spain international for two years while he was Juventus manager.

Llorente has scored six goals for Swansea this season, all of which have come in his last 10 appearances and all at the Liberty Stadium. In fact, only Eden Hazard (7) has scored more goals on home soil than the Swansea No.9 in the Premier League this season.
