Manchester United manager set for contract renewal talks

Manchester United plan to open contract renewal talks with Jose Mourinho in November, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Mourinho’s current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2019 and United want to get the ball rolling to ensure they do not start next season with questions about the 54-year-old’s long-term future.

Mourinho only revealed earlier this week that he is not worried about his future at Old Trafford and would be happy to see out his three years before extending his stay.

However, United want to clarify Mourinho’s position at the club well before then and will start the process of a renewal in November, which would be the mid-point of his original contract.

The former Chelsea boss won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season in charge of United and will take his side to Stoke on Saturday looking to maintain their lead at the top of the table.

United have won all three of their opening league fixtures without conceding a single goal and are already the early frontrunners for the title, although they are yet to face a side of any significant note.

Mourinho has won more than half of his matches in charge of United (58.8%).
