Chelsea join race for Barcelona left-back

Chelsea have joined a competitive race to sign Barcelona left-back Marc Cucurella, reports The Mail on Sunday.

The young Spaniard is currently on loan at LaLiga side Getafe, who have excelled this term and, prior to the league being suspened to help contain the Coronavirus outbreak, sit fifth in Spain's top tier.

And his performances in Spain haven't gone unnoticed either, with Napoli and Bundesliga duo Gladbach and Bayer Leverkusen all courting the 21-year-old.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is looking to bolster his side at left-back, with Marcos Alonso and Emerson both flattering to deceive for the Blues.

Cesar Azpilicueta has also been deployed in the role, but Lampard is looking to add another left-back to the ranks when the transfer window is opened.

Cucurella has earned a respectable WhoScored rating of 6.92 in LaLiga this season and Getafe have an option to buy in place for €6m in the summer.

Barcelona would receive 40% of any future sale, so if Getafe were to make his move permanent, they'd likely command a high fee for Cucurella.
