Aston Villa have signed Cordoba defender Jose Angel Crespo on a three-year deal after the Spaniard completed his medical at the club’s training ground on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old, who joins for an undisclosed fee, is Tim Sherwood's seventh signing of the summer following the arrivals of Scott Sinclair, Micah Richards, Mark Bunn, Jordan Amavi, Idrissa Gueye and Jordan Ayew.
Crespo has represented Spain at U19, U20 and U21 level as was part of the Cordoba side that was relegated from La Liga last season.
“Jose is a player who has been on our radar for some time and we’re really pleased to secure his signature," Sherwood told Villa's official website.
“He is an experienced player who has played in La Liga and Serie A, two of the strongest leagues in Europe, and from speaking to him I know he can’t wait to play for Aston Villa.
The Spaniard has the ability to play right the way across the backline. Of Cordoba players to have made more than 20 appearances in La Liga last season, only one teammate earned a lower WhoScored rating than Crespo (6.82).
