Liverpool defender on verge of joining Serie A side

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan is poised to join Cagliari after the club accepted a £2m offer from the Serie A side, claims the Liverpool Echo.

Klavan has spent the last two years at Liverpool after joining Jurgen Klopp's side from German outfit Augsburg for an initial £4.2m fee.

The Estonia international was signed to provide back-up for Liverpool's first choice centre-back options and has dropped down the fifth in the pecking order since the end of last season.

Klavan, who is currently struggling with a slight knock, is now on his way to finalise terms with Cagliari to get a deal completed before the transfer window for Italian clubs shuts this evening.

Despite the fact Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip are susceptible to injuries, Klopp has sanctioned Klavan's departure due to his faith in the young defenders coming through Liverpool's academy.

Since making his debut for Liverpool, the Merseyside outfit have a better win ratio in the league when the 32-year-old has not started (60%) compared to when he has featured from the off (51.6%).
