Martinez dismisses Mirallas exit rumours

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has dismissed suggestions Kevin Mirallas could leave the club in January.

Mirallas, 28, had been linked with a move away from Goodison Park over the summer and the Belgium international has seen limited game time this season.

The Toffees added further competition for places on the flanks over the summer and there had been suggestions Mirallas could move on in the winter transfer window with one eye on the Euros next summer.

However, Martinez has rejected those claims and insists the wideman still has a future at the club.

“It couldn’t be further from the truth,” Martinez is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “Kevin has been a very important player while I’ve been at the football club.

“The start of the season has been challenging for him individually as he’s had a couple of niggles, a couple of injuries. Then he had the sending off, so he wasn’t available for three games.

“Kevin Mirallas is a very important player for Everton, he knows that, and all he wants now is to get important playing time, because the start of the season has been quite frustrating for him.”

In fact, only four players have played fewer minutes than Mirallas for Everton in the Premier League (168 mins).
