RB Leipzig owner Dietrich Mateschitz has confirmed they have rejected a £66m bid from Liverpool for star man Naby Keita.
Jurgen Klopp has earmarked the signing of Keita as a priority this summer but the Bundesliga side have reiterated on a number of occasions that the Guinea international is not for sale at any price.
Liverpool have already broken their club transfer record once this summer and the Premier League giants are now willing to nearly double the £36.9m they paid Roma for Mohamed Salah to land the Leipzig No.8.
The 22-year-old reportedly wants to join Liverpool but Leipzig have no interest in selling any of their star players as they gear up for their first-ever involvement in the Champions League.
Leipzig are even willing to turn down the chance to make money on Keita despite the fact a £45m release clause in Keita’s contract will become active next summer.
“We don’t sell any of our players just to get money,” Leipzig’s owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, told German newspaper Bild, via The Daily Telegraph.
“Lately we got a €75m offer for Naby Keita. No way! He has a contract and he will accomplish it.
“To sell him would not only be a proof of distrust to our fans but also the wrong sign for our players like Timo Werner, who is in demand too.”
No player won possession in the midfield third more times in the Bundesliga last season than Keita (180), who also played a direct hand in 15 goals from his box-to-box role.
